Thoughts on drainage

This time of year I get a lot of calls about drainage. Considering that our area received little to no rain the entire month of June, the rain we now see has more people looking to solve basic ponding or erosion issues that have bothered them for years on their property. Drainage problems can result in many issues such as: dead turf/plant material, settling of hardscape or foundations, mosquito breeding grounds, flooding of structures during heavy rain events, etc, etc. Pretty major stuff.

It is prudent to speak with a professional about drainage remedies as the solution takes into account multiple factors. Solutions can be more simple, or more complicated than you would think and have lasting effects. Also, some solutions may be installed that beautify areas of your property. What you DON’T want to do, which I see often, is to direct your drainage flow or emit onto your adjacent neighbor’s property. Just don’t do that. If the elevation or grade change on site is challenging there are ways to mitigate that without causing a neighbor war. Finding the proper solution will eliminate the frustration of all of that excess water and increase the worth of your property while giving you peace of mind.

If you have any questions about drainage problems feel free to reach out.
